Gudran's Village
Village of the Blue Flames
A walled village in a mist-covered valley, where the bell sets the rhythm of daily life and warns of danger in the forest.
- Region
- A valley beneath the mountains
- Ruler
- Lord Gudran
- Population
- A little over two hundred
Behind the walls
A wooden wall surrounds the village. A little over two hundred people live among stone-and-timber houses gathered around a square. The settlement is built around Lord Gudran’s small castle, and it also has a church and a bell tower.
The bells mark the passing of the day and warn the villagers when danger approaches.
Life by the forest
The stream runs through the forest toward the village. Fishermen work its banks while woodcutters fell trees and haul timber back to the settlement. As the village grows, the workers have to venture farther into the woods to make a living.
The forest is part of everyday life, but it is not safe. The weather can turn, the birds can fall silent, and mist can close in among the trees.
The rule of the bell
Everyone knows to respect the bell. When it sounds, those working in the forest are expected to return. Lord Gudran’s orders forbid anyone from entering the woods after the bell has rung.
For the people of the village, the bell marks the boundary between the work of the day and the dangers waiting in the forest after dark.
